Alam Ara

If Bollywood is fundamentally a song-and-dance film, then Ardeshir Irani’s Alam Ara is the place to start (1931). It was India’s first talkie (also a musical) and had seven songs, starring Prithviraj Kapoor and Zubeida.

Pinjar is amongst the most celebrated works of Indian poet and author Amrita Pritam, set during India’s partition. It describes the difficulties experienced by rural Indian women who were confined by society’s stringent laws at the time.

Insaf Ka Tarazu translates to “justice’s balance,” and the film explores what justice is and how to achieve it. 

A rich businessman named Ramesh encounters a beauty pageant named Bharti, whom he invites onto his yacht in this gripping thriller.
