Slow loading speeds, lags, and constant messages about low disk storage. These are frustrating times for most millennials, and Gen Z to a certain extent. This could be why millennials consider patience to still be a virtue. Okay, enough of the shaming of younger generations. They’ll learn, probably.

It is now possible to eliminate all clutter from our laptops and desktops thanks to technology. To free up considerable disk space on your Windows, you can choose between software and non-software programs. This process is similar to choosing the best mobile plan using services such as Spectrum Mobile. Internet, people! It’s all part of your daily routine.

What is Disk Space?

Disk space is the amount of space on a magnetic disc. This magnetic disk is installed on computers and laptops in the form a hard drive. This utility stores digital content such as documents, programs, and operating system files. Computers and laptops are primarily stored on hard drives.

How do I check if my disk space is full?

To identify performance problems, you may need to periodically check the disk space. Sometimes a computer may act strangely or slow down. These lags can often be accompanied by cryptic error messages. You can find free disk space on your laptop or desktop computer. This is how you do it:

  • Open the File Explorer icon
  • Choose This PC
  • Find the drive that suits you best
  • The disk space indicator will appear.

All Settings allows you to view your Windows PC’s disk space. Click on the notification icon at the lower right of the screen to open the All Settings icon. After you have reached Settings, click on the notification icon to the lower right of your screen. Next, select Storage. The disk space will be displayed.

How can I free up disk space on Windows?

There are many ways to clear the Windows disk space. Microsoft has more than five ways to clean up your Windows disk space. These include Disk Cleanup, deleting unneeded apps, and attaching an additional storage device to your computer.

Storage Sense

This is the simplest and most convenient way to free up space on your computer’s hard drive. Storage Sense automatically deletes temporary files and other unneeded items. Storage Sense will remove any temporary files that are not being used if the system is on its default settings. Recycle Bin will hold the files that were deleted.

Storage Sense works only on the system drive (also known as the C Drive). To automatically free up space on your device, you can set Storage Sense-up. For the correct procedure, go to Settings > System> Storage> Configure StorageSense or Run It Now.

Use Disk Cleanup

Disk Cleanup can be used if you don’t have the Storage Sense tool. Disk Cleanup can be used to remove temporary files from your computer’s desktop or laptop. This is the complete tutorial about Disk Cleanup.

  • In the taskbar’s search box, type Disk Cleanup
  • To delete files, tick the boxes. You can also view each file’s details.
  • You can tick several files by default. If you do not wish to have the tick removed, those files can still be saved.
  • Click Clean Up System Files to remove extra space
  • Next, select OK and then Delete Files

The cleanup will begin. Disk Cleanup will take some time to determine how much space is available on your device. Important: Disk Cleanup might list your previous Windows version as a system files. After you upgrade to Windows 10, this may happen. This happens after you have upgraded to Windows 10. You can delete the file but it won’t let you access the older version of Windows.

To Install the Latest Windows Updates, Clean up Your Disk

Windows will notify you if it requires additional storage space in order to install the latest updates. To complete the task, you might consider using an external storage device. Windows 10 updates usually require large amounts of space. External storage devices can be up to 10GB. A reliable internet connection is also required. You can also update Windows easily by clicking Start, followed closely by Settings, then Update & Security.

Unnecessary files and applications can be deleted

To free up space, you can manually delete files and programs. To free up disk space, make sure to empty your recycle bin. Go to Control Panel on your computer to manually delete a program or application. Below the Programs header, you’ll find the Uninstall a Program option. Click on the program that you wish to delete. The Uninstall option will be right next to the Organize option. You can click on the Uninstall option to delete unneeded programs.
